Our Commitment to Accessibility

MDG is committed to meeting the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities in a timely manner, consistent with the principles of dignity, independence, integration, and equal opportunity. The purpose of the Plan is to communicate MDG’s approach to promoting an accessible environment, removing barriers to accessibility for people with disabilities, and outlines MDG’s strategy to meet the accessibility needs of people with disabilities.

The Plan includes but is not limited to the commitments of MDG pursuant to applicable legislation, including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

Customer Service

MDG has implemented an Accessibility Policy to ensure that our customers with disabilities are treated with dignity and respect and have the same opportunity to access and benefit from our merchandise, facilities, and services as other customers.

Information and Communications

MDG is committed to meeting the communication needs of individuals with disabilities. MDG is currently in the process of updating its website and content to conform with WCAG 2.0, Level AA by January 1, 2021.

MDG is committed to ensuring that existing feedback processes are accessible to people with disabilities upon request. MDG will continue to periodically review its processes for receiving and responding to feedback from customers and staff, consider accessibility requirements when creating new forms of communication, and make appropriate changes and accommodations where required or requested.

MDG is committed to ensuring that publicly available information about its merchandise, facilities, and services is made accessible upon request. MDG will continue to periodically review the information it provides to the public, consider accessibility requirements when creating new forms of publicly available information, and make appropriate changes and accommodations where required or requested.

Accessible Emergency Information

MDG is committed to providing customers and clients with publicly available emergency information in an accessible way upon request. We will also provide staff with disabilities with individualized emergency response information when necessary.

Employment

MDG is committed to fair and accessible employment practices. MDG will accommodate individuals with disabilities during the recruitment and hiring processes and during employment. MDG will review its recruitment and hiring policies, processes, and communications and will modify them as required to reflect required accessibility standards.

MDG will continue to develop or revise individual accommodation plans and return-to-work plans for staff that have been absent due to a disability as required. MDG will review performance management and career development processes and modify them as required to ensure the accessibility needs of staff with disabilities are considered.

MDG will continue to identify and take steps to prevent and remove other accessibility barriers impacting employment.

Training

MDG will provide training to staff and volunteers on Ontario’s accessibility laws and on the Human Rights Code as it relates to people with disabilities. Training will be provided in a way that best suits our staff’s job duties and responsibilities.

MDG will take the following steps to ensure staff is provided with the necessary training:

  • Post our Accessibility Policy and accessibility training on our internal website
  • Ensure all current staff and new staff have received the Accessibility Policy and complete mandatory accessibility training
  • Review training on an annual basis, and update as necessary
